This is going to make someone very happy :) I'm glad so many people entered this! Such a thoughtful project! The water color is beautiful

Oh! The project is great. This is the first year that I participated. I joined DA years ago when it was still somewhat new and they either didn't have this annual project yet or I just didn't notice. Then I was DA dead for a few years while serving in the Army. I only recently returned for good and started having the time and interest for community projects. I am very glad to have been a part of this. I had a lot of fun learning to use watercolor paint (I had next to no experience with watercolors before this painting here,) and I'm hoping whoever gets the original likes it.

Oh wow!! Thanks for serving :D!!
Glad you were able to check it out this year, it was a really cool time to join DA recently and find out about this kind of project
This is really a good first try though! I have tried water colors before I have to say I like them a lot better than acrylics or oils, and they are also a lot more forgiving for my mistakes :D

Really? I always thought oils were more forgiving than watercolor. I guess it really depends.

Hm not for me, yea I suppose it does depend because I am a mess with oils!

Well acrylic is something I can't do. Well, I can do the underpainting in acrylic, anyway. But then I paint oils over it. Acrylic paint just dries too fast for me. It gets tacky and rips up my brushes as I work. And it dries too quick to be very much use when I want to mix colors on the canvas (which I LOVE doing.) Oils stay workable for days or even weeks depending on what I mix them with. I don't like to be rushed.

Ugh yes this is exactly what happens to me with acrylics, I am just not good with them with oils I've only really attempted it once or twice - oil on cardboard both times
A lot of digital painters who have traditional painting backgrounds seem to prefer oils too, I'm thinking it's probably just my technique that has me disliking them? I never really "learned" how to use oils, and I can't say I have practiced near enough with them :(

I've never tried oil on cardboard. I only ever used stretched canvas or canvas board. Not sure how much different it is. We used oils in my art classes in school, so that's just what I have the most practice with I guess.

I actually have no idea how to digitally paint (as opposed to just color.) I've tried multiple times, but it never really works out. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
